100 days in Southeast Asia | Part 2 | Singapore in 3 days
We had 2 options when booking our flights, via Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia or via Singapore.
The flight to KL would be about $30 cheaper than the one Singapore, however, one of my best friends was living in Singapore at the time, so we decided to go via SIN and visit her, why not!?
This was actually my 3rd time in Singaporean soils, however the other 2 times I only spend the day exploring the city since it was just a connection flight with long waiting times.
This time we decided to spend 3 days with her and catch up and explore.
We stayed at her place which wasn’t far from the subway line and so very convenient for us, and luckily she wasn’t working then so she could take us around and enjoy as well!
Obviously we were traveling on a budget, so we had to save as much as we could. And if you don’t know Singapore is a very expensive city, specially if you enjoy going out and drinking !
So we went for a tour around the city, visited some shopping malls, Marina Bay, temples, etc. We walked SO much haha but we love walking as I probably have already mentioned before we find the best way to explore new places.
We went to Fort Canning Park, Clarke Quay, some cool streets like Muscat St where you find delicious food and we had a delicious Turkish meal!
We also went to the Selfie Cafe where they take a photo of you and print it on the coffee you choose to drink! It’s quite interesting, and of course we got one for us to share haha It is a bit pricey of course, for the novelty… But the coffee was also delicious.
And managed to go out to a rooftop bar at night which had happy hour so quite ok the prices for drinks, that we ended up having a little bit too many haha
It was a fun night, that after the bar we wanted to catch the Super trees show which apparently happens 2x per night.
It is a free light and music show, super worth checking it out! Unfortunately we missed out the water show after the Tree but that will be for our next Singapore connection flight ;)
We also went to Club Street for a few happy hour drinks the other night and Chinatown where we stumbled upon a ridiculously cheap Michelin-Starred restaurant. I had no idea what this was until Viv explained that it is basically award winning restaurants around the world but mainly in Europe. I don’t believe they are usually this cheap in Europe, but this one we found was c-r-a-z-y!
We paid $10 for both of us, meaning 1 dish and 1 drink each! Dishes were between $3 - $6 AUD, which for Singaporean prices it is quite insanely cheap. It’s called Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice Noodles. Please don’t expect anything fancy! But yes, it is tasty!
Singapore is beautiful at day and night time. So clean and organized, friendly and polite people. But I guess it was a good amount of time as, again, we couldn’t afford to spend much money before even starting our real trip.
I was lovely seen my friend as well and having her that knows the area very well to take us around.
A funny thing happened actually, we were randomly walking on a shopping mall near my friend’s place just before catching the subway to explore another day when we hear our names coming from somewhere… hahaha it was an Airbnb guest (Singaporean) we hosted in Melbourne a couple of years ago! It was hilarious, she spotted us from far away because Viv is quite tall so you can’t miss him even if you wanted haha
It was great quickly catching up with her as well! Such a lovely girl! Coincidentally that was also her neighborhood haha And the other funny thing is that last time we were in Bali a couple of years ago we also met her there, coincidentally! Crazy small world this one we live in, right?
I felt bad that I didn’t tell her we were going to be in Singapore, but I figured we wouldn’t have much time since I was staying and catching up with my Brazilian friend…
Anyway it was nice seeing her and her beautiful smile again.
We explored mostly on foot and public transport and had a good time in Singapore and it was time for us to fly to our first destination in the Philippines! Cebu Island!
Check out on the next post :)
