AUSTRALIA | Mum visiting and backpacking with me - Part 2
So there we went, mum and I traveling together just like the old days!
Not sure if I already mentioned but Viv didn’t come with us since he couldn’t get any time off, unfortunately.
We flew to Sydney first, stayed at Travelodge as it was the cheapest we could find at that time.
I thought she should see Sydney as, you know, it is a landmark itself with the popular Opera House and Harbour Bridge and the Circular Quay etc

So we spent 4 days around Sydney area, we didn’t go too far from the city but we managed to see quite a bit anyway. Since we didn’t have heaps of time I decided to take her to the main ones, which are obviously the more touristic ones.
Bondi Beach |
Our first day was spent visiting the Circular Quay, Opera House, Botanic Gardens, Harbour Bridge and at the end we went to The Rocks for dinner.
Second day we went by ferry to Manly and spent the day around there exploring and got to see one of my old French Airbnb guests! Pretty cool coincidence!

Katy Perry and I |
On the third and fourth day we went to Darling Harbour, I wanted to take her to the Madame Tussauds since I thought it was quite fun last time I went and so for not much more we could get also tickets to check out the Wild Life Sydney Zoo and Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, not really something that I enjoy going since I hate seeing the poor things without their freedom, but anyway, she was there with me and so we ended up taking up the 3 pass deal.
We also visited Chinatown, Koreantown, Chinese garden, CBD, Hyde Park, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Bondi beach of course, etc..
A lot of walking, bus, train ...
She really enjoyed it. And obviously me too, it is always good to explore!
Then, off we go to Brisbane!
Aww I love Brisbane, I think because it was the first city I lived when I first arrived in Australia, so I have this thing for it <3 It was my first lol
Brisbane River |
I also have a lot of friends still there and had a lot of fun time living there, my first 2 jobs were there at bars, the weather, the peace, the size of the city and just everything about it… I don’t know haha anyways.
We didn’t get awesome weather 24/7 but still got to enjoy a lot. A friend of mine let us stay with him for the 4 days we were staying in Brisbane and it was fantastic.
So good to see old friends and catch up!
Story Bridge is so pretty at night |
I think my mum thought Brisbane was too small, probably compared to Sydney, Melbourne and of course Sao Paulo haha which is freaking huge. But she still liked it, I think. haha
GOMA |
Places we visited were: New Farm since we were already staying there, so why not! We walked around there quite a bit; walked through Fortitude Valley, Chinatown and the CBD; walked around Roma Park, King George Square, Anzac Memorial, Riverside, Story Bridge, City Botanic Gardens and Southbank; went to GOMA Gallery of Modern Art which was quite interesting and I highly recommend if you’re in the area, went for a ride at the Brisbane Wheel but only because they had this 2 for 1 online deal so we decided to check it out and it was cool as you get a beautiful view from up there; walked around South Brisbane and West End went to a bar and a greek restaurant; had to show her a shopping mall in the city too; some other bars and restaurants, etc…
We also went up to Mount Coot-tha to check the lookout, the day wasn’t bad so it worked out well. I took her across Brisbane river via CityCat a couple of times instead of catching buses.

We had lovely time in Brisbane and the next stop was the Gold Coast!
Beach time!
There we would stay at a Airbnb house which we found affordable for 3 people since Viv was coming up from Melbourne as it was Easter Holiday! So we got to spend more time together the 3 of us :D
Kirra Point Lookout - Gold Coast |
On our 5 days there, we stayed in Miami beach , 10min walk to the beach and 15min walk to Burleigh Heads! Perfect location since we love Burleigh and Miami.
We went all the way to the NSW border Tweed Heads, visited Coolangatta, Snapper Rocks, Tugun, Currumbin, Palm Beach, Burleigh heads and Surfers Paradise.
Most of our time were spent on the beach, walking, watching the surf, going to restaurants, bars, relaxing, etc.. We got to catch up with a couple of friends for Easter Dinner and it was lovely too!
The famous Surfers Paradise sign haha |
