CHINA | Attractions in Qingdao
Here are some of the things we found around Qingdao:
Zhanshan Temple, which is a lovely Buddhist temple surrounded by mountains and the sea making it a quite stunning scenery for this sanctuary. The monastery is active and it was built in 1945.

At the Old Town you will find some German architecture and influence as the German police headquarters, German Navy battalion, the Christian Church, Prinz Heinrich Hotel, German school for boys, etc..
Beer Street is a good street to go out and have some good food and drinks, there is also where you’re going to find the famous Tsingtao Brewery!

Tsingtao Brewery Museum was such a cool experience, we went for the tour, which was quite interesting and at the end we got beers and snacks! They have a delicious variety of Tsingtao beers there, not just the ordinary one! So damn good. We got a bit too drunk after all the drinking that night haha. Watch our 2nd video here to check out some of it :)

St. Michael's Cathedral (restored) was built in the Romanesque revival architectural style in 1934 and it is quite interesting to see such architecture in a Chinese city, made me feel like I was in Europe haha

May 4th Square is a seafront promenade in Qingdao’s CBD with beautiful views, greens and the big red monument in memory of the anti-imperialist, cultural and political movement of student participants in Beijing (04/05/1919), protesting against the Chinese government's weak response to the Treaty of Versailles.
It was quite nice to just walk around that area at day or night time, very peaceful and pretty. We were also staying 2 minutes walk from there which was handy.
May 4th and it's lovely colours at night time |
Qingdao German Zongdulou Former was fascinating to see. It is a museum of the Former German Governor’s residence on the 20th century.
Unfortunately no photos were allowed inside, but I guess it makes more interesting to see this stone and timber mansion as they kept the original furniture of that time. The colonial architecture is so stunning mixed in this green landscape.

Qingdao Zhongshan Park is such a beautiful and also pretty damn big park! A day there is definitely not enough, so maybe you should pick a side of the park if you don’t have much time.
Some blossoms |
It has various botanic gardens! I honestly loved it, so much to see. I got to see cherry blossoms at their famous Sakura Road!!! It was like a dream. Thousands of cherry blossom trees! A must if you like them as I do haha. They have the Cherry Blossom Festival in April and May every year, and luckily we were there mid April!
Apparently in July they have a lantern festival too at this park so if you find yourself there at this time of the year maybe do some research to find out the exact date :)
So much to see at Zhongshan Park |
Huashi Building (Huashilou) looks like a castle! We were so surprised to see such architecture. We were just walking through the Badaguan Scenic area when we came across this building which was built in 1930.
It used to be owned by a Russian aristocrat and I later on became a reception facility. No wonder why, it is so beautiful.

Mount Lao (Laoshan) - You could probably spend a week there and not see everything, so many hiking trails and temples, caves, waterfalls to see… By the way, it’s all paved, so quite accessible to most people.

They also have a gondola which we chose to go up the top of the hill instead of walking and then we went all the way down hiking from there. I believe this was the best option for us then, since we didn’t have much time left as we wanted to get the Shuttle Bus back to the city otherwise we would have to pay for a cab I guess.
I would definitely recommend checking at least one of the walks there. It is beautiful and so peaceful.
Gondola up the mountain |
We also explored Badaguan Scenic Area, Lu Xun Park, Qingdao Music Square as so on.
Some things we missed out on:
The Princess House which we prefered going to the Huashi building instead, but if you have time, why not?
Another stunning park |
Jiaozhou Bay bridge which is the longest bridge over the water !!! Guiness book! Seriously, it’s CRAZY, we saw it from the airplane when departing, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to go across. But you definitely should! It’s insane haha
Qingdao International Sailing Centre, Olympic Sailing Museum, Naval Museum and much more…
Going to Qingdao was such an amazing surprise! We really enjoyed our week there and still in 1 week we didn’t get to see everything we wanted to. Not sure if because of all the things this city has to offer, or because we were just taking our time exploring haha
I guess a bit of both.
