THAILAND | Part 2 - Mum visiting and backpacking with me!

Another lovely flight and we finally arrived there, in Chiang Mai.
It was night time which is a great thing actually, since they stop the water fight at sunset, it meant we would have dry backpacks yay!!

Monks
And we didn’t have anything booked (again) but we had a couple of options to visit. The first one surprisingly was booked out and online it wasn’t for some reason, so we ended up going to the other one which was a little bit extra cash, but awesome place anyway!

Visiting one of the temples

Splash!!
It is called Estia and we paid about $35 per night at that time. The location is quite good and it was such a clean and chilled out place. They even have a swimming pool at the back.
Mum loved it a lot.

Sites we visited during our 4 days in Chiang Mai were the following :

Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep
Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, located at Doi Suthep Mountain, was the most beautiful temple(monastery) we visited I think!
You have 2 options, walk up over 300 steps or take the tram up.

There is also a great lookout which you have an awesome view of the city! Highly recommended! We took a tuktuk up there since it is quite a distance up a really high mountain. About 15km from the centre of town.

Oh, and he waited for us to walk around etc… There are lots of souvenirs too up there. So you will spend at least an hour exploring this site.

We visited quite a few temples around the city too: Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang man, Wat Thung Yu, Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, Wat Lok Moli and a couple of markets Muang Mai market, Warorot market.

And obviously a lot of walking around the city, night market and the daily water fights (Songkran).

Songkran happens during the day only, stops at sunset and which means you will be wet most of the day if you’re touring around haha It is fun and good tho since the weather is freaking hot during this time of the year!

Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan

There is a parade in the city centre (old quarter), water, music, water, presentations, water and more water. It is quite fun to walk around with a water gun or just sit at a bar and do some people watching on a main road enjoying a cold beer in the shade. We got to see so so so many people getting soaked haha pretty funny fights happen all the time.

After lots of fun, feeling sick because of the extreme heat one day and eating amazing food daily, the new year event was finished and we were heading back to Australia.

Having a beer and people watching at Songkran

But instead of going straight back, we would stop over in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, for a couple of days, since we were already going that way anyway.

Chips and water guns
We stayed at the Pacific Express Hotel which was very central for 1 night and the night before our flight we stayed at Sri Langit Hotel, that was closer to the airport, both were similar price about $30 per night and they were both clean as well.

We enjoyed visiting KL for a couple of days, it was enough time to visit a few sites like the famous Batu Caves, these limestone caves and huge statue next to the steps; the stunning Petrona Towers, National Mosque of Malaysia, Chinatown were mum bought most of her souvenirs, Sculpture Garden, Sri Mahamariamman temple, Masjid Jamek Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, Berjaya Time Square...

Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

We did everything by public transport since we figured it would be the quickest and cheapest way to do it. And in fact it was.

Finishing our trip in KL we took our flight back to Melbourne and she had another week there to relax and enjoy a bit more of what the most livable city in the world has to offer.

Petronas and mum
Sometimes you go on holidays and it doesn’t seem like you relaxed as much as you wanted or planned to. That is definitely what happened to my mum haha
She took those 6 weeks off work in Brazil to visit me and I took her to all these places and she ended up not resting as much, she even said she went back to work more tired than when she left for her holidays hahahahah

On the other hand, she said she enjoyed a lot a lot and was happy to be with me. Isn’t is nice awwww… So difficult to live far away from her, we were so attached when I live in Brazil, my whole life there was hanging out with her… I miss her a lot. Hopefully in not so long we will get to live together again :)

Returning to Aus
