Jodhpur - The Blue City | INDIA

Here we go again, another overnight train but this time to Jodhpur. And it didn't seem very ‘blue’ when we first arrived, however from a different angle we did see the blue!

It is the second largest city in Rajasthan state and the old town near the Mehrangarh Fort is where you are going to find the blue houses. The reason behind the blue colour is not certain haha of course, some say it is because Brahmins cast families paint their house blue, others say it is because the blue colour keep the house cool as Jodhpur gets sunny and bright days all year round and the actual temperature is also high. Reason why this city is also known as ‘The Sun City’.

The blue city! View from the Fort
We stayed at a pretty(and blue) guesthouse called Heaven. There was a rooftop with awesome views of the fort and we felt very privileged to just be able to sit there enjoying a beer watching the sun go down or having some brekky in the morning.

Unfortunately we spend 2 full days in Jodhpur. Sad sad sad. So we ended up doing only a few things. Still fun tho, you can check out our short video in Jodhpur here :)

Mehrangarh Fort - It was built around 1460 by Rao Jodha. We explored and also did zip lining which is inside of the fort and it is astonishing! The view from when you going down the line is just breathtaking. You also get awesome views of the blue city. It wasn't the cheapest but we figured we didn't have much time there anyway so we might as well do something different and we don't regret at all! It was a great experience.
It is a massive fort (of course) so 1 day would basically exploring the fort itself, there is also a museum, audio tour, park etc.

Umaid Bhawan Palace - It is actually a hotel and very impressive, from the outside at least since we weren't allowed to go in, only guests of this hotel can. Everything is so perfectly manicured. And apparently it is one of the world's largest private residences too.

Jaswant Thada - Another beautiful marble carved mausoleum built by Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur State in 1899 in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. I love this culture of building wonders for the passed loved ones.

Sardar Market and Ghanta Ghar (Clock tower) - It is a market with delicious street food, super crowded, funny vendors and the famous clock tower.

Snoring my way to Udaipur
And this was our short adventure in this cute place. Each city has its own beauty and all of them have been a lovely surprise to us as we didn’t do any research before taking off to India. By the way, I would suggest doing at least some research beforehand so you have a better idea and don't rush through like us because of lack of train tickets at this time of he year.

Our way to Udaipur was by taxi and actually not too bad.
