Agra - Taj Mahal & Agra Fort | INDIA
Finally leaving the dusty capital, we were heading to Agra.
After some research we decided that arriving early in the morning and spending just the day in Agra would be enough. And it definitely was the best decision ever.
We met a French girl traveling by herself and we stuck together until the night which we had a train to our next destination. And we visited only 2 places Agra Fort and Taj Mahal - Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites and a must see of course.
So much beauty - Agra Fort |
Agra Fort is pretty damn big and was the main residence of the Mughal Dynastys emperors till 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi.
You can see the Taj Mahal from inside of the fort too which is great to give you a different perspective of that beauty.
The haze was intense but you can still see the Taj Mahal on the right |
We arrived at about 11am, done some exploration and some squirrel feeding - and got bitten by one, no, I did not get rabies haha and I also don't think they carry rabies anyway. But hell yeah that mini bite made me cry like a baby. I'm such a chicken. You can see it on my Agra video on YouTube.
Bloody Squirrel... |
And so, we followed to the next attraction about 3pm to spend a few hours admiring that beauty and to be able to see the sunset at the Taj.
I can guarantee, you can see a thousand photos of it and still will never be the same as being there, looking at it, being right there, is completely different than any photo, it is surreal to see it in person. I still remember the goosebumps and emotion when walking through that door and seeing it in the background. Unforgettable!
Goosebumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Well, you know the Taj Mahal is this impressive ivory-white marble mausoleum, yes that's right, a tomb, located on the south bank of the Yamuna river. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
Indescribable |
What a lucky wife hey! Yes, obviously a must visit. There are no words to describe this fascinating tomb. Spectacular is not enough.
Even crowded as f* you can feel the magical atmosphere and you won't regret it. Also you can escape to the back of the Taj or the sides of the complex to find some peace. Walk inside by yourself or hire a guide to show you around and explain all about the Taj.
The Taj Mahal |
It was night time and we found ourselves looking for something to do before our train which was scheduled to 8pm. We had 3h left which we ended up going to some restaurant not too far from the station and as soon as we got to the station, we found that there was a 1h delay. And of course, another delay after the first, and another and another.
In the meantime we were just trying to avoid the scary people around the train station. Oh gosh, there I was freaking out again. But seriously, it was worse than the station in Patna, both were really crowded, however this one had some of the creepiest guys I have ever seen! lol
Anyways, finally at about 1am we couldn't be happier to be jumping on that dusty train and following to the next destination, the Pink City - Jaipur - the last city of the Indian Golden Triangle.
